Key Items Provided by Smith PTA in 2019-2020

Here are some of the highlights of what we achieved last year all thanks to our Smith PTA community:

  • Our most successful Pumpkin Patch event to date, bringing in more money to fund our student programs, but even more importantly, bringing our community together for a very fun event!
  • Our highest membership ever! Our goal was 1-1 representation for all students, and we far exceeded that goal! With 729 students, we ended the year with 780 memberships! Amazing!
  • Our first ever Halloween costume swap, such a creative idea to help recycle costumes and make sure everyone who wanted a costume had one!
  • Our first winter gear swap for our 5th graders for outdoor science camp, following the same premise at the costume swap
  • Cleaning out and maintaining our beautiful Kindergarten garden
  • Providing over $800 in high-interest books for our reading resource library to help our at-risk readers
  • A new spring fundraiser, exceeding our fundraising goals and providing a fun experience for kids centered on character traits
  • A successful and fun movie night experience (after getting rained out all the previous year!)
  • Highest attendance at skate parties ever, thanks to our new chairs with their fun themed days like ugly sweater day, etc.
  • A freshened up MPR with new bulletin boards and positive messaging to welcome students during assemblies
  • Supporting funding for Project Lead The Way so that all grade levels could implement this hands-on approach to learning and integrating curriculum
  • Funding and organizing a successful Meet The Masters program to provide an enrichment arts instruction program
  • Funding for new playground equipment for recess and PE
  • A successful fall book fair, getting so many more books into our students hands to encourage reading
  • Supporting restaurants in the community with Dine Out For Smith days, who in turn supported us with $ back
  • A focus on fitness with our 100 Mile Club program, exceeding our school-wide goal and with several students achieving their 100-mile goal!
  • A new yearbook that costs less for parents to buy, and that has more customization options!
  • More students than ever before at Smith participating in our Reflections Art Contest program with winners going up to the county level!
  • Providing over $7500 in classroom reimbursements back to our classroom teachers and staff
  • Supporting our online literacy programs, including AXL, STAR, and Accelerated Reader (over $13K total)
  • Providing a FUN new assembly for students with a look at the stars from inside a large portable dome
  • Funding for library books and materials for the new media center
  • Our Separate But Strong theme to carry us through Distance Learning, including stickers, magnets, yard signs, and our social media campaign
  • Supporting 5th grade with yard signs to celebrate their accomplishments
  • Supporting our staff with yard signs as a small token of our huge appreciation for all that they do!

All of this happened because of you! Thank you for your support of Smith PTA. There were SO MANY people working behind the scenes on all of these things to make them happen, including Lori Kamola, President, and the rest of the 2019-2020 Smith PTA Board.
